There are a couple of reasons as to why this blog is dedicated to you. Not because of your fancy beaches and amusement parks, but because of the frequent humid climate that seems to constantly hoover around you...
1. Today, which is Memorial Day, tourists flocked to D.C...not only was it a great day to remember but today also happened to be one of the Hottest Days in D.C of the year. There was a severe heat alert, which meant that not only were there high temperatures (94-96) but there was also severe humidity as well...Florida anyone?! So when is stepped outside this morning, I was ready to be hit with a wall of 100% heat, but instead I was greeted with the smoldering memories of working in Florida all summer and realizing that today of all days, really wasn't as bad as everyone was saying it was. And for that, I would like to say "Thank You Florida."
2. I also want to thank you for training my hair not to puff up like a lions mane in the humidity. Word of the day - Resilient: Able to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions. (Thank you Moon Willow)! And again. Thank you Florida.
3. I also want to thank all of my previous Supervisors (Bethany, Kim, JJ). I'm currently looking through my closet for outfits to wear on my first day and I feel like I am looking at all of you! I don't know exactly what I am going to wear, but I will definitely make you proud!

My feet are KILLING me!
Lesson #1: Do NOT ever wear heels when commuting to work...especially if you live in DC and work at a Huge Facility! I'm just going to share with you my first experience with heels on the metro. (Please be advised, this story contains graphic content)! I understand that DC is a walking district, and I had only two reasons for wearing heels on the first day to get my picture taken. 1. I wanted to see just how bad it was going to be if I wore heels to and from work, just so I could see if the advice was true. 2. I have a really nice pair of black Express Editor pants and I have to wear them with heels because they're long....anyway.
My feet were good for a while, but after three different metro stops and walking around my internship site, I realized very quickly that even my most comfortable heels was not even close to being comfortable enough. Problem. As my two friends and I struggled home, I kept kicking myself (mentally) and could not wait to take my shoes off. Well, It just so happens I had some crazy blisters, and I had a small cut on my toe that had started bleeding because of the constant pressure from walking around!!! Lesson Learned. Ladies and Gentleman I will be wearing flats for the rest of my life...lesson learned.
Other than that, a few friends and I (Yes, I am making friends lol) decided to go out and walk around D.C yesterday. There are so many free things to do around the city! They had a Jazz festival in the park. Apparently, it is every week during the summer and it was Packed! So we went to the National Zoo...I made a friend :)

Yesterday, one of my friends reminded me of something...I will be in Washington, D.C for the 4th of July this year! That is Really Exciting!!! I'll keep you posted!

Washington D.C Intern
So, it is official. Yesterday began my check-in and internship experience. My best friend Suzanne and I drove from Boston to D.C - a total of 8 hours. We left Boston at around 10pm and pretty much drove straight through. (I recommend driving in the early hours of the morning, especially when you are going through New York City). We arrived at 6:45 am...roughly 3 hours before check in began. So we literally slept in the car in front of the building until it opened. Needless to say, I was the first person to check in, which means I got first dibs! Awesome! The apartments are amazing by the way!
Today marked the first day of my program orientation. I woke up around 8:30 and started the day off in the Word! Then, I decided to set up this blog. I want to share as much of my experience as possible. There are a lot of things that I cannot include in the blog about where I am interning, nor the work that I will be doing - its all confidential (which is awesome!!!). However, I am still going to include everything that I can. Including all the random moments, and advice that I have learned and want to share regarding interning and life in general.
Each summer, roughly 20,000 students flock to the nations capital in order to intern for a number of Non-Profits and Federal Agencies. One of my roommates is interning at the Library of Congress, and the other is interning for a Non-Profit T.A.S.S.C (Torture Abolition Survivors Support Coalition) which is pretty self-explanatory. Another girl is interning for the president of the NRA, crazy!
This is going to be a wild and exciting journey. I look forward to taking advantage of everything our Nations Capital has to offer. Even though I have barely enough money for groceries and will probably be living on Ramen noodles and tap water, I am SO excited for this amazing gift.
He is so good.
